How I Choose a Deck (NSFW)

Hola! I’m so jittery from excitement over my FIRST LAUNCH of my BDAY PACKAGE DEAL for my oracle/tarot readings! Or, maybe, I’ve had too much coffee this morning…or maybe so much good is happening in my life right now that I’m just electric. Or tomorrow’s my birthday. Or ALL OF THE THINGS!!

Either way, I thought I’d push the pause button on getting ready for the launch to bring you: How I Choose a Tarot or Oracle Deck. You can read about what decks I have to choose from here.

So, here goes.

Honestly, a lot of the choosing I do is purely based off of intuition and gut feeling. I have a situation or a specific question I would like some insight on, and I go with the deck that feels the best. If you were to ask me for a reading, but didn’t have a specific deck in mind, I would usually ask what type of topic or question you have, and go from there. Sometimes, if I’m reading for my friends, I just dive right in with the deck that feels the best for their situation at the moment.

Here is what I tend to do beyond that.

If I’ve got a sensitive question, or a friend that isn’t into divination or is really vulnerable right now, I use the Archangel Oracle Deck. These cards are really great at giving a gentle push in the right direction, and are like the best friend that knows what to say to help you on your way.

If I’ve got a question regarding relationships or love life, I go to the Psychic Tarot for the Heart Oracle Deck. That’s what these cards were programmed for, and they’re great at fostering self-love, too.

For a look inward, or spiritual retreat, I either choose the Heart of Faerie Oracle or the Enchanted Map Oracle.

Now, on to the tarot decks…

If I want a straightforward and honest answer, I go to the Tarot of the Elves. Not a lot of people can handle the artwork of these cards, however, so be aware that they may not always appear friendly. These cards will help in their own way, so I am comfortable enough to have them available for friends and customers alike.

For female empowerment, or to get in touch with one’s inner goddess, I suggest the Motherpeace Round Tarot Deck. This is also a great deck when it comes to community circles.

The Circle of Life Tarot Deck is a great deck for a unique perspective. The artwork tends to make one think about life in a different way, and gives great advice that makes one look at the bigger picture of things.

The Gateway to the Divine Tarot has a fresh and crisp look to it, as well, and takes one on a journey to greater understanding. I use this deck when I need to ask on practical matters like career or finances, but it would also be a great choice if you simply like this kind of artwork.

Finally, the Mystic Dreamer Tarot Deck is a great all-around choice, and has softer artwork and a gentle personality, great enough for a first-time reader. This is the deck that serves as my go-to for whenever I’m not quite sure what deck to use, and is great for any topic or question.

So, there you have it! Please take your time when choosing a question for each reading. The cards will be able to tap into what you’re truly asking, so make sure you know the difference between what you want to hear and what you need to hear, as well!

Meet The Decks! Pics NSFW ;)

Hello, all! I’m so excited you’re reading this today! This is going to be an AWESOME post. But don’t just take my word on it, no…keep reading, and let me know what you think!

Today, I will be showing you LOTS of pictures and telling you a little bit about each deck that I currently have available at the SH shop. My hope is that it will help those that are future customers decide which deck they’d like to use, and it doesn’t hurt to have some pretty pictures lying around showing what beautiful artwork I get to work with every day.

Alright, enough of the jaw-flapping, let’s get on with the cards!

First things first, I’ll share the oracle decks that I have available.

I’ll start with The Heart of Faerie Oracle Deck by Brian and Wendy Froud.

If you’re into tarot and oracle at all, you’ve probably seen their work before. It’s definitely iconic faerie work, and I’m proud to have this deck in my toolbox.

With beautiful pictures, each faerie image invites you to look within yourself and question your beliefs about the Universe and how it works, and what your part is in it.

This is a deck that has been really helpful to me when I need to take a look within.

Next, The Psychic Tarot for the Heart Oracle Deck by John Holland.

Though the title has the word “tarot” in it, this is really an oracle deck–it just so happens to have a lot of ties to the more traditional tarot decks.

This deck is really a go-to for anything relationships, as the name may suggest. Romantic, work-related, and friendship relationships–these cards LOVE questions regarding the intimate, emotional, and spiritual connections we make with ourselves and with others.

The Enchanted Map Oracle Deck by Colette Baron-Reid is next.

My friend Sam loves this deck…particularly this card below:

I love the artwork in this deck. It’s a unique style with lots of symbolism and bright colors. Look at the reading I received this morning, below.

…again with the landscape pictures thing. Oh well!

Last, but not least, with my oracle decks is the Archangel Oracle Deck by Doreen Virtue, Ph.D.

This deck holds a special place in my heart because of its softer nature.

For those looking for a first-time reading from me, who may have some apprehensiveness regarding  the art of divination.

It’s also a great go-to deck for those who are going through a rough time and need gentle guidance.

And now, we’re moving on to the tarot decks of the SH world!

First, my first round tarot deck: The Motherpeace Round Tarot Deck.

…again with the not liking of the landscape pics. 😦

 

For this deck, I do read the traditional Charge of the Goddess poem while shuffling each time. I’ve found it helps me connect with the cards and focus more on what they have to tell me. (Some images NSFW.)

I’ve found that this deck is best for those open and willing to accept the feminine power in their lives and open to viewing life as circular.

Next, my other round deck: The Circle of Life Tarot from Lo Scarabeo.

This has some awesome artwork, though this wouldn’t be safe for work, either.

Some of my friends like these images, as well.

These cards are great at giving advice, and calling it like it is. No BS from these cards, at all!

Next, the Tarot of the Elves by Mark McElroy (artwork by Davide Corsi)

This was one of my first tarot decks, and it was a great one to learn on. The book itself is unique and was great because it led the reader on a journey throughout each suit.

The crisp, clean artwork has a unique quality, too, though I wouldn’t recommend this deck to newcomers, unless you REALLY like Elves.

Next, another great deck: The Gateway to the Divine Tarot by Ciro Marchetti.

This deck is so cool. I was really looking forward to getting this deck because of the artwork. Little did I know that the book would be such a great help, too.

The crisp imagery on the cards allows to look deeper into the symbolism. These cards would be great to look into for any subject or question.

And, last, but not least…

The Mystic Dreamer’s Tarot Deck by Barbara Moore

This deck is so special to me–it was my first tarot deck! I’ve learned so much from this deck in the past and it has helped me with so much! I’m so excited to keep learning from it. This deck is so special to me that it deserves its own special box, shown below.

These cards are typically my go-to when I’m not sure which deck would be best. If I don’t have a strong feeling to use a certain deck for each question, I’ll usually use this one because it’s the one I know the best and is a great deck that can be used for anyone.

So, there you have it! I’ve showed you some of the beautiful cards I get to work with on a daily basis, and told you a little about them. Later this week I’ll give a short blurb as to how I choose a deck and what things I consider when trying to decide which deck to use.
